Mathura (UP), Sep 11 (PTI) A childless couple from Madhya Pradesh was arrested for allegedly kidnapping a five-month-old boy outside a railway station here after they were “tempted” upon seeing a family’s children, police said on Friday.

The accused, identified as Sanjeev and his live-in partner Seema, were arrested around 7.10 am from a temple in Basiya village of Morena district in MP when they were returning after their pilgrimage, Circle Officer (Refinery) Praveen Tiwari said.

The officer said that the kidnapped infant was rescued and handed over to his parents.

The couple had travelled to Mathura last Saturday and were staying at the railway station while visiting different religious places, the officer said.

Seema, who works as a midwife at a district hospital in Morena, was living with her partner Sanjeev for the last three years after her husband left her, police said.

Police added that they were married in 2018 and that her husband allegedly used to torture Seema because they had no children.

Seema was told by a palmist at Mathura railway station that her horoscope indicated she would have a child.

“The couple came in contact with Unnao resident Devshankar Mishra, his wife Gauri and their two children on Sunday. The family was staying in a tin shed outside Gate No. 2 of Mathura Junction railway station,” Circle Officer Tiwari said.

“The accused got tempted after seeing the children of the Mishra family,” he added.

The couple befriended the family and began staying nearby, but Gauri became suspicious of their activities, police said.

Taking advantage of an opportunity on Tuesday, they allegedly kidnapped the five-month-old boy while he was sleeping beside his mother outside the railway station.

Police traced the accused to Morena and arrested them at the temple, rescuing the infant from them.

“The child was given to his parents,” Tiwari said, adding that legal proceedings against the accused were being carried out. PTI COR KIS KSI KSI

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
