New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate told a court here on Thursday that former finance minister P Chidambaram, lodged in Tihar jail in the INX Media corruption case, is not required to be arrested at this stage in the money laundering case.

Special judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar was informed by the ED that Chidambaram is already in judicial custody in the CBI’s corruption case and not in a position to tamper with the evidence.

ED said it will take him into custody in the INX Media money laundering case at an appropriate time.

The court was hearing Chidambaram’s plea to surrender in ED’s money laundering case.

  1. This recount mantri has his cronies in finance ministry can manufacture fresh evidence and present it thru his chelas and damage ED case

  2. Until proven otherwise the ex-FM/HM is a clean man. There are only allegations against him, just as the Gandhis, Shivkumar and so on. But unfortunately the courts do find that the allegation are worth investigating. Just look at the number of times his case has been heard in all courts including the SC, represented by the most expensive lawyers, and he still does not get relief so obviously he has to go through the process like a common criminal alleged of a crime. How pleasant or human that system is , he knows because he was the HM & FM obviously he thought it was perfect otherwise he would have changed it and funded the changes. To say there is no chair to sit on(at least he has a bed and a western toilet), how many undertrails have that luxury? Now he also wants a pillow, why did he not sacanction that when he was the FM? More than the punishment it is the humiliation that a common man is scared of

  3. CBI seeks custody stating that, they require judicial custody as chidambaram is capable of tampering with evidence and ED says they don’t require custody as they feel he cannot tamper with evidence. What I feel is the whole purpose of the exercise is to take vengeance against Mr Chidambaram by Amit Shah and to humilate him. I also feel the Delhi High Court is also part of this conspiracy looking at the way the judge even refused to allow him with home cooked food even ignoring earlier Mumbai High Court judgement in 2017 where in the Judge said “Not allowing home food to undertial” is actually violation of right to life. Mr Chidambaram is an undertial which is at its very initial stage not a convict, for a person who lived high standard personal life with quality physical and psychological comforts, forcing to feed on Sub par quality and poor nutritious food in itself is not less than punishment, which should be seen as human rights violation only. I feel it is not just about him, every undertial who is not convicted has the right of dignity and quality of food he generally can afford as per his socioeconomic status. Because if he is acquitted by the court after two years of suffering in the as an undertial, that it self is travesty of Justice.

    • Why are you taking side of congress lawyer and ex all powerful minister who hired top notch lawyers of the country? His whole family is under corruption lens and during congress 55 years of rule corruption not only increased but reached to an epidemic proportion and India stands way behind majority of countries.
