Jalna, Jul 21 (PTI) A group of activists from the Chhava Sanghatna allegedly attempted to set fire to the Nationalist Congress Party’s office in Maharashtra’s Jalna, police said on Monday.

The incident came hours after the clash between NCP workers and Chhava Sanghatna activists in Latur.

A case has been registered against five activists of the Chhava Sanghatna for the arson attempt late on Sunday night, an official said.

Quoting the complaint, the official said the accused arrived at the NCP office around 11 pm carrying a bottle of petrol, which they poured on the office shutter and set it ablaze.

However, the blaze was extinguished after the timely intervention of staff members present at the spot, he said.

The accused also raised slogans against Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, NCP state president Sunil Tatkare, the official said.

On Sunday, NCP workers beat up Chhava Sanghatna activists after they confronted Maharashtra unit president Sunil Tatkare and threw playing cards in front of him during his press conference.

The activists were protesting against state Agriculture Minister Manikrao Kokate after a video showing him purportedly playing a game of rummy on his mobile phone during the recently concluded monsoon session of the state legislature went viral.

The NCP’s Jalna unit president, Arvind Chavan, condemned the attempted arson and submitted a memorandum to the district superintendent of police, demanding the arrest of those responsible. PTI COR ARU
