Bhopal, Apr 23 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Thursday said the central government has approved an increase in the wheat procurement target for the state for marketing year 2026-27 by 22 lakh metric tonnes (MT).

“With this increase, Madhya Pradesh’s total wheat procurement target has now reached 100 lakh MT from 78 lakh MT,” the chief minister said in a statement.

This decision of the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution is considered an important step towards ensuring greater procurement of wheat from farmers in the state at the support price, he said.

“This decision is a major step in the interest of farmers, ensuring better prices for their produce and further strengthening the food grain management system in the state,” he said.

The move recognises the hard work of farmers and is a strong step towards ensuring fair prices for them, Yadav said, adding that despite current global challenges, the government stands firm behind farmers.

The wheat procurement will be carried out in phases, starting with small farmers, followed by medium-scale farmers and later large farmers.

Yadav had sent a proposal in this regard to the Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Prahlad Joshi, and also discussed the matter with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

If required, the procurement date will be extended to support the farmers, whose interests are paramount for the government, he added. PTI MAS NP
