CBI arrests senior DGFT official in bribery case

New Delhi, Aug 19 (PTI) The CBI arrested an assistant director general of foreign trade on Wednesday for allegedly demanding and accepting a Rs 30,000 bribe from a complainant for processing an Export Promotion Capital Goods (EPCG) authorisation file of his client, officials said on Wednesday.

According to a CBI spokesperson, the agency registered a case on August 19 against the accused posted at the Office of the Joint Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Panipat, Haryana.

The accused allegedly demanded Rs 30,000 from the complainant for clearing the deficiencies and processing the EPCG authorisation file in respect of the complainant’s client, the spokesperson said in a statement.

The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused public servant while allegedly demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs 30,000 from the complainant, the spokesperson said.

The accused will be produced before the designated CBI court at Panchkula.

Searches are underway at the residence and office premises of the accused, the spokesperson said. PTI MHS KVK KVK
