Thane, May 26 (PTI) Five persons had a narrow escape after a car and a truck caught fire in separate incidents in Maharashtra’s Thane city early on Tuesday, officials said.

A blaze erupted in the car carrying four friends at 4.06 am near Saket Bridge on the Mumbai-Nashik highway while the vehicle was on its way from Kalyan bypass towards Gaimukh on Ghodbunder Road, Regional Disaster Management Cell chief Yasin Tadvi said.

“As soon as smoke and flames were noticed, the driver pulled the vehicle to the roadside and all the occupants got out safely,” he said, adding that no person was injured.

The four-wheeler suffered extensive damage in the blaze, the official said.

Fire brigade, police and disaster management cell personnel rushed to the spot after being alerted, and the blaze was doused by 4.54 am, he said.

In another incident, a parked truck caught fire near Ambeghosale Lake at Castlemill Naka at 4.33 am, and the driver’s cabin was damaged, Tadvi said.

No one was injured. Fire brigade personnel extinguished the blaze by 5.05 am, he said.

Investigations were underway to ascertain the cause of both fires, officials said. PTI COR GK
