Kolkata, Jul 23 (PTI) The BSF troops have seized 89.4 kg of ganja that was being smuggled to Bangladesh along the international border in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas and Nadia districts, an official said on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip-off, the Indian border guards on Tuesday tried to stop four to five men moving suspiciously near the frontier and fired a warning shot using a non-lethal pump action gun (PAG), the BSF official said.
They fled, leaving the sacks they were carrying, and on a search, the BSF troops of 143 battalion recovered 56 kg of ganja near the Amudia border outpost, he said.
During another operation, the BSF troops seized 28.4 kg of ganja from the Boripota and Raninagar border outposts of the 11th battalion and 5 kg of the contraband from the Gede border outpost of the 32nd battalion, the official said.
The seized contraband was handed over to the authorities concerned following necessary legal procedures, he said. PTI AMR SBN SBN
