Hyderabad, Apr 20 (PTI) Alleging that the BRS is trying to please the BJP to save itself from a probe into “irregularities” in the Kaleshwaram project built during the previous BRS regime, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday asked why the Centre has not started a probe, though the state government referred the matter about nine months ago.

Reddy, who undertook a visit to the Medigadda barrage of the Kaleshwaram project to inspect the dam site, said the state government would come up with a plan of action to carry out repairs to the project and also to ensure that the guilty in alleged irregularities in the project are not spared.

“Why does the Centre keep silent (on initiating CBI probe)? Why is the Centre not taking action? Though we are sending frequent reminders, why is the Centre not responding? Is it not true that Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) and Union Home Minister (Amit Shah), during their visits, alleged that Kaleshwaram became an ATM for the KCR family and that there were irregularities to the tune of thousands of crores,” he asked.

He said Union Minister G Kishan Reddy had demanded handing over the probe into the alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project by promising to arrest BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao within 48 hours. Kishan Reddy had also stated that the state government does not have the competence to investigate, he said.

Reddy claimed that there is some movement in the Centre in ordering a CBI probe because of the letter recently sent by the state government.

The state government sent information to the Centre that it would announce agitation from Kaleshwaram if the Centre failed to immediately order a CBI probe.

“Worried, (BRS MLA) Harish Rao and (former BRS MP) Vinod Rao hurriedly ran to Delhi. They undertook the visit to touch the feet of BJP leaders,” he said.

Alleging that BRS kept Harish Rao’s visit to Delhi a secret until the media revealed it, he said the former should make details of his visit to the National Capital public.

Saying that people should know the intention behind the “secret visit”, the chief minister said he is ready to order a probe into Harish Rao’s meetings in Delhi if the latter agrees.

The probe should bring out who Harish Rao met secretly, “How he tried to save (BRS) from corruption charges by meeting prominent RSS persons to put pressure on (Central) government,” he said.

The Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project is a multi-purpose project on the Godavari River in Bhupalpally district. Damage to the barrages, built during the previous BRS regime, was a major issue during the 2023 Assembly election. PTI SJR SJR ADB
