New Delhi: A couple in Bihar’s Katihar district has named their newborn daughter ‘Sindoori’ in honour of the Indian Army’s Operation Sindoor, carried out against Pakistan in the early hours of 7 May.
Sindoori was born in a private nursing home in Katihar Wednesday morning.
“The attack that India carried out on Pakistan was named Operation Sindoor. Our daughter was born at 9 am of 7 May, so we decided to name her Sindoori,” the girl’s maternal grandfather Kundan Mandal said to ThePrint, expressing pride in the armed forces’ operation.
“Everyone in the family is pleased with the name. Our daughter’s name has become immortal. Now the world will know her by the name of this operation,” he added.
Two weeks after the Pahalgam terror attack on 22 April, India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ in the early hours of Wednesday, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
According to Mandal, India has given a befitting reply to Pakistan.
He added that when Sindoori grows up, she will join the Indian Army.
“Every time we say her name, we will be reminded of the strong message India sent to Pakistan—it will always be a source of pride for us and a tribute to our Army,” he said.
Indian parents have long had a penchant for giving their children unique, event-inspired names. During the Covid-19 pandemic, a couple in Chhattisgarh named their twins Corona and Covid, while a family in Madhya Pradesh named their baby boy Lockdown Yadav.
