Lucknow, Jul 13 (PTI) The body of a 45-year-old man who went missing after he fell into a drain along a waterlogged road here, was recovered on Sunday morning, a local corporator said.

Suresh Lodhi, who worked as a painter, had allegedly slipped into a drain in Mallahi Tola-1 ward in Lucknow during incessant rains on Saturday morning. The old drain is said to have been broken at some portions, which were concealed by waterlogging in the area.

“The body of Suresh Lodhi was recovered on Sunday morning by the State Disaster Relief Force personnel and Lucknow Municipal Corporation team, almost 1 to 1.5 kilometres ahead of the spot where he was engulfed by the drain. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination,” CB Singh, the corporator of Mallahi Tola-1 ward, told PTI.

Elaborating on the incident, Singh said the incident took place between 7 and 7.30 am on Saturday, when there were heavy rains in Lucknow.

“Since it is a low-lying area, the drains of a number of wards merge here. This is a very old drain, the bricks are broken at some portions. It was cleaned just a few days ago. The area was submerged in water due to the heavy downpour, there was water up to knee length. Which was why Suresh Lodhi couldn’t spot the broken part of the drain, and he slipped into it,” Singh said.

The corporator added that he had raised the issue in the House of Lucknow Municipal Corporation earlier and will take it up again.

“I had also suggested that a parallel drain should be built, so that the pressure on the existing one could gradually ease,” Singh said. PTI NAV RUK RUK
