Ludhiana, Mar 31 (PTI) A man died and two others, including a 16-year-old girl, were injured in an explosion at an illegal firecracker manufacturing unit in Jodhan village of Punjab’s Ludhiana on Tuesday, police said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Mullanpur) Varinder Singh Khosa said preliminary investigations suggested that firecrackers were illegally being manufactured in the building.

The deceased has been identified as Kaif Shah, the police said, adding that Alisha (16) is among the two injured.

The incident occurred at around 7:30 pm. The sound of an explosion was heard far away, causing panic in the area. There were reports that an explosion took place in a cylinder in the building, they said.

Upon receiving information about the explosion, police, fire brigade and ambulance rushed to the spot and took the injured to a nearby hospital, they said.

One of the injured said the roof of the building also collapsed following the explosion.

The police said further investigation in the matter was underway. PTI COR CHS NB NB
