New Delhi: A dying scientist has tipped an MP off about a dangerous plot against a high-profile politician, and she now has to race against time to stall it.
BJP MP and spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi, who started her career as a lawyer, is all set to make her debut as a novelist with a political thriller based on intrigues within the corridors of power.
Titled New Delhi Conspiracy, the novel is centred on Vedika Khanna, who is, just like Lekhi, the MP for New Delhi.
When a scientist is fatally attacked in her house one day, he tells Vedika with his dying breath about a plot to assassinate the beloved Prime Minister Raghav Mohan.
Although lacking any further clue, Vedika takes a vow to expose the conspiracy, finding help in a firebrand journalist named Reya and her friend Kartik, a cyber expert. The first clue comes from Hong Kong, which takes them to a Tibetan monastery, apparently the hub of the conspiracy.
‘Purely fictional’
Speaking to ThePrint, Lekhi said the novel was “purely a fictional work”.
“This novel has no connection with my life… Its plot has been inside my head for so many years, but I started to work on it last year and completed it within a year.”
Lekhi said she regularly writes political speeches, blogs and articles, but penning a novel is a different ballgame altogether. “I am sure people will be startled with my new role once they read this novel,” she added.
Her novel is being published by Harper Collins and it will hit the stands on 8 July.
Lekhi told ThePrint that she is still undecided on whether she will get her novel launched by a BJP leader or a renowned woman writer.
With this book, Lekhi enters a club of politician-novelists that includes the likes of fellow MPs Shashi Tharoor and Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, the Union HRD Minister.
