Bulandshahr, Sep 2 (PTI) Former Uttar Pradesh minister and BJP leader Anil Sharma died on Wednesday, according to local officials and party sources.

He was undergoing treatment for cancer in a Delhi hospital.

Sharma (63) was a native of Surajawali village in the Shikarpur area and an MLA from the Shikarpur Assembly constituency.

Sharma was first elected to the Uttar Pradesh Assembly in 2002 from the Khurja Assembly constituency on a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket. He retained the seat in the 2007 Assembly elections, again contesting on a BSP ticket.

He later joined the BJP and was elected from the Shikarpur constituency in the 2017 and 2022 Assembly elections.

Sharma served as the minister of state for forest and environment in the Uttar Pradesh government from 2017-22. PTI COR ABN APL APL
