BJP holds ‘Save Democracy’ padayatra in Kolar, accuses Cong of ‘politicising’ SIR

Stay updated with ThePrint:

Kolar (Karnataka), Nov 3 (PTI) The BJP on Tuesday took out a ‘Save Democracy, Eradicate Anarchy’ padayatra in Kolar, accusing the Congress of “politicising the SIR of electoral rolls and misleading youngsters to provoke confrontation.”

Carrying national flags, the footmarch began at Doom Light Circle.

BJP National General Secretary and Karnataka State In-charge Harish Dwivedi, State President and MLA B Y Vijayendra, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R Ashoka, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy and former Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa were among those who participated in the march.

The march is part of the BJP’s month-long campaign across Karnataka aimed at countering the opposition INDIA bloc’s narrative against the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre.

Addressing the gathering, Vijayendra alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was unable to accept Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s continued popularity and was attempting to destabilise the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.

Referring to Gandhi’s remarks on ‘regime change’, Vijayendra claimed that the opposition was seeking to remove a government that had received a democratic mandate.

“Rahul Gandhi is frustrated. Time and again, in the Lok Sabha elections, the people of this country, particularly its politically aware voters, have blessed Narendra Modi. Rahul Gandhi is unable to tolerate this. That is why they are staging protests every day at Jantar Mantar. They are trying to create an atmosphere of anarchy across the country,” he said.

Vijayendra said the Congress was opposing the SIR exercise despite voter-list revisions having been carried out several times across the country.

“The Congress has no faith in the SIR process. It has no faith in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). It does not even have faith in the Supreme Court. The party is creating doubts about constitutional institutions,” he alleged.

Referring to recent protests in New Delhi, Vijayendra alleged that certain elements were attempting to create unrest in India, similar to incidents in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and France. He claimed that these forces were seeking to remove the BJP from power despite its electoral mandate.

Vijayendra targeted the Congress government in Karnataka, accusing it of corruption and raising prices, which he said had made life difficult for poor and ordinary people.

Alleging that the state government was anti-farmer, anti-poor and anti-people, he called upon party workers to work towards removing it from power.

He said the ‘Save Democracy, Eradicate Anarchy’ padayatra was being organised to create awareness among people about what the BJP termed anti-national forces.

Similar marches would be held in Chitradurga on Wednesday and at all district headquarters across Karnataka, he added.

Vijayendra claimed that the previous BJP-led government in Karnataka had governed with concern for farmers, the poor and Dalits.

He expressed confidence that the BJP-led NDA would return to power in the state.

Yediyurappa alleged that the Congress was conspiring to undermine the democratic system.

“A struggle is underway across the country against this, and I am confident that in the next Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party and H D Kumaraswamy’s Janata Dal (Secular) will join hands and form a government in Karnataka. We will make this happen, and it is as certain as the existence of the sun and the moon,” he said.

He alleged that corruption was rampant under the Congress government in the state, development works had come to a standstill, and prices of essential commodities were rising every day.

“The prices of milk and curd have been increased, pushing people into a situation where they are finding it difficult to breathe, let alone make a living. People are facing an unprecedented situation in which survival itself has become difficult,” he alleged. PTI AMP SSK
