New Delhi: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has created a new department dedicated to the standardization of products and services related to environment and ecology. The department has been named ‘Environment and Ecology Department’ (EED), a PIB press release stated.
The new department was established by the BIS with an aim to set standards for the protection of the environment and provide sustainable development. The department will work in collaboration with various government agencies, industry, and other stakeholders to develop standards for a range of sectors including eco-mark, sustainable forestry, and blue flag beaches.
BIS has also planned to host a series of seminars in the next two months to become a leader in environmental standardisation and set benchmarks in global sustainability. The country’s environment and ecology sector is expected to provide an opportunity for collaboration and the new initiative will help in addressing the needs of the industry and society.
