Bilaspur (HP), Oct 17 (PTI) Bilaspur Deputy Commissioner on Saturday directed the formation of a joint committee of concerned departments to conduct regular surprise inspections to curb illegal mining in the district.

A check post will also be established near Garamod to inspect vehicles arriving from Punjab, while special surveillance at identified illegal mining hotspots, including Ali Khad and Seer Khad, will be maintained, officials said.

The deputy commissioner chaired a meeting to address illegal mining activities and improve monitoring mechanisms in the district.

Officials from the Police, Mining, Industries, Public Works and Jal Shakti departments attended the meeting, while all Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs) participated both online and offline.

The joint committee will conduct regular surprise inspections to monitor mining activities and ensure prompt action in cases of illegal mining, officials said.

The proposed check post near Garamod aims to enhance surveillance by screening vehicles entering the district from Punjab.

During the meeting, officials mentioned that 16 legal mining leases had been granted in the district.

The deputy commissioner instructed officials to promptly address complaints regarding illegal mining and take necessary legal action against vehicles found involved in such activities.

He also directed the concerned departments to work in coordination with each other to ensure effective monitoring of mining operations across the district. PTI COR BPL SMV SMV MDO

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
