Patna, Oct 8 (PTI) This year’s International Buddhist Conference will be held in Bihar’s Vaishali town from December 11 to 13, bringing together Buddhist scholars, monks and cultural groups from India and abroad.

According to a statement by the Cabinet Secretariat department on Thursday, Buddhist monks and spiritual leaders from Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Japan and South Korea are expected to attend the three-day event to be held at the Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum-cum-Memorial Stupa complex. Fourteen international scholars have confirmed their participation, it said.

The conference will feature Tripitaka recitations, discussions on Buddhist heritage, heritage walks, cultural performances and an exhibition showcasing Bihar’s handicrafts.

A high-level inter-departmental meeting, jointly chaired by Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit and Development Commissioner Mihir Kumar Singh, reviewed preparations for the conference on Thursday.

Officials were directed to ensure smooth road connectivity, uninterrupted power supply and adequate medical facilities at the venue and surrounding areas, the statement said.

“Helpdesks will be set up round the clock at Patna airport and Patna railway junction to assist visitors and delegates. A modern tent city is also being developed in Vaishali to accommodate visitors and provide them with essential facilities,” they said.

Amrit said the conference would strengthen Bihar’s position on the global tourism and Buddhist spiritual map.

He directed the Vaishali administration to complete all inter-departmental preparations within the stipulated timeline to ensure a smooth experience for visitors from across the world.

The Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum-cum-Memorial Stupa was inaugurated by then Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in July last year. The complex houses a library, museum, pond, guest house, amphitheatre, cafeteria and other facilities. The foundation stone of the stupa was laid in 2019. PTI PKD MNB

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
