Bihar’s infrastructure will undergo major transformation in coming years: CM Samrat Choudhary

Patna, May 11 (PTI) Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Monday said the state’s infrastructure will undergo a major transformation in the coming years through multiple connectivity projects.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Navin Kishore Sinha Path, named after BJP national president Nitin Nabin’s late father.

After inaugurating the road connecting Mandiri to Kali Mandir near Gandhi Maidan, Choudhary said it would be linked to Marine Drive by March 31, 2027.

Navin Kishore Prasad Sinha was a four-term BJP MLA from Patna West constituency.

“Mandiri area has long suffered from severe traffic congestion. This alternative route will completely transform the area. Residents, who suffered for years because of a drain, will now witness the transition of the area into a commercial hub,” he said.

The chief minister thanked former CM Nitish Kumar and Nabin for initiating the four-lane road project over Mandiri drain to improve connectivity and cover the drain simultaneously.

“When I served as Urban Development Minister in 2014, I initiated the experimental construction of the Ashiana-Digha drain road. Nitish Kumar ji had encouraged me to test the model then,” he said.

Choudhary said similar roads are being built over Saidpur and Rajeev Nagar drains.

“The Bihar government is planning to build new cities on both sides of Patna. Pataliputra township spread across nearly 66,000 acres is being planned, while on the other side of the Ganga, the government has already begun the work of building a township in Sonepur region,” the CM said.

Furthermore, road, rail and air travel infrastructure are being expanded in general, he added.

He said a major bridge project connecting Didarganj, Kacchi Dargah, Raghopur and Hajipur would be inaugurated next month, providing a new route to north Bihar.

“The government is accelerating the Patna Metro project to improve the city’s transformation. New airports are being developed in Sonepur and Bihta, while Patna Airport will also be upgraded,” he added.

Nabin, who was present at the event, said his father had envisioned converting major drains in Patna into alternative road corridors.

“During his tenure as an MLA, my father had envisioned developing several major drains of Patna, including the Mandiri drain, into alternative road corridors. I am happy that former chief minister Nitish Kumar supported that vision, and the current chief minister has now inaugurated the road,” he said.

Nabin, a former MLA from Bankipur, thanked residents for supporting him during his “times of struggle”.

“With the blessings of my father, I worked for a long time in this region. Today, I am immensely happy that a huge transformation has come in people’s lives. The people living beside the stinking drain now have an open road full of opportunities before them,” he said.

Highlighting urban reforms, Nabin said cities were getting parks, community halls and other civic infrastructure under government schemes.

“There was a time when the Patna Municipal Corporation lacked its own infrastructure. But under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urban local bodies and Panchayati Raj institutions have been empowered with greater autonomy,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Nabin paid tributes to his late father, Navin Kishore Prasad Sinha, on his birth anniversary after a park named after him in Patna was inaugurated by Choudhury.

“The simplicity and determination with which my father worked in politics remain an inspiration for all of us today,” Nabin said. PTI SUK MNB
