Patna, May 22 (PTI) RJD national president Tejashwi Yadav on Friday criticised the central government for “failing” to stem depreciation of the rupee and control inflation, and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “misleading” people.

In a post on X, Yadav claimed that the rupee has reached its lowest level and become the weakest currency in all of Asia.

“Before becoming the PM, Narendra Modi had said that there was a competition between the central government and the rupee over who would fall more. Today, the rupee has reached its lowest level and has become the weakest currency in Asia,” he said.

He also claimed that this is the eighth consecutive year of rupee depreciation, and the Indian currency has lost half its value over the last 12 years.

“Misleading people, the Prime Minister says that India is one of the world’s top major economies, but if we look at per capita GDP in terms of US dollar, India ranks 16th in the world, behind even Bangladesh,” Yadav said.

The RJD leader asserted that inflation, poverty, and unemployment have broken all records.

He said the financial situation in Bihar, “the country’s most backward and poorest state”, is the worst.

“In the double-engine government, unemployment, poverty, and inflation have multiplied several times. Governance in Bihar is being run in such a way that it feels like no government exists here at all,” Yadav added. PTI SUK RBT
