Nawada (Bihar), May 14 (PTI) A police officer was seriously injured during a raid against illegal sand mining in Bihar’s Nawada district, officials said on Thursday.
The injured assistant sub-inspector was identified as Nagendra Kumar, police said, adding that six persons involved in illegal sand mining had been detained.
The incident took place at Kesariya village within Nardiganj police station limits in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
Talking to reporters, Nardiganj police station SHO Aditya Kumar said a police team conducted raids in Kesariya village following a tip-off about illegal sand mining.
“On seeing the policemen, a person who was illegally transporting sand on a tractor tried to flee with the vehicle. The ASI instructed him to stop, but he refused and hit the policeman before fleeing after abandoning the tractor at the spot,” the SHO said.
The injured ASI was taken to the nearest hospital, from where he was referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital.
Police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to arrest the accused. Six persons have been detained so far in connection with the incident, he said. PTI COR PKD MNB
