Khagaria, Aug 9 (PTI) A security guard was shot during a suspected theft attempt at the site of an under-construction road project in Bihar’s Khagaria district in the early hours of Sunday, police said.
The incident happened around 1.30 am at the site of an under-construction toll plaza of the Aguwani-Sultanganj four-lane project, they said.
The victim, Massa Singh of Tarn Taran in Punjab, was deployed as a security guard by a private agency at the site, they added.
Parbatta SHO Pramod Kumar said police reached the site after being informed about the incident.
“The site was secured, and a forensic team was called to collect evidence. We are investigating the case from various angles and efforts were underway to identify and arrest the accused,” he said.
The guard told police that he noticed two suspicious youths entering the site, apparently with the intention of stealing.
“When I raised an alarm, one of the youths opened fire, injuring me in the leg,” Singh said.
The two suspects fled the spot after the shooting, he claimed.
Singh was initially taken to the Parbatta Community Health Centre and later admitted to the Khagaria Sadar Hospital for further treatment, officials said.
Police are also examining whether the suspects’ motive was limited to theft or whether there was any other reason for targeting the construction site, they said. PTI CORR SUK SOM
