Thane, Jun 27 (PTI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced the construction of a flyover parallel to the Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan underground metro rail Line 5 to alleviate traffic woes, officials said here on Friday.
The CM also announced plans to extend metro line 5 from Kalyan to Ulhasnagar and further to Chikhloli near Ambernath, which will ensure faster connectivity for residents of these booming areas in the district, the officials said.
The overall development of Bhiwandi city will gain momentum with the simultaneous implementation of metro line 5, the new flyover and road widening works, a release by the Thane district administration announced.
The road widening project is as important as the metro rail line for the people of Bhiwandi and must be started immediately, the release quoted Fadnavis as saying.
“The Kalyan-Bhiwandi Metro Line project is being executed to meet the growing transport needs of Bhiwandi’s expanding population and its vibrant freight logistics sector. The metro, in tandem with upgraded roads and the new flyover, is expected to greatly alleviate traffic snarls and provide smooth, reliable public transport,” the release said.
The release said the CM assured that there will no shortage of funds for infrastructure development in Bhiwandi, which is a strategic freight and logistics hub of Mumbai metropolitan region. PTI COR BNM
