New Delhi, Sept 10 (PTI) A day after BJP MLA Anil Sharma rejected the AAP’s allegations regarding ownership of the Satya Niketan PG building collapse that claimed seven lives by showing registry and building-related documents at a press meet, AAP’s Delhi unit chief Saurabh Bharadwaj asked Sharma on Thursday to share those documents publicly.
Bharadwaj said merely displaying the registry papers was not enough and Sharma should share them in the public domain so that the land’s details and the area covered by the registry could be verified. “The registry is not shown like this. Please share the registry in the public domain. Let us also see how many square yards of land it covers and which land the registry is for,” Bharadwaj said at a press conference.
The BJP MLA, who is also a spokesperson for the Delhi government, said on Wednesday that the land belonged to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and showed the documents. He said the property was his ancestral land, not purchased, and demanded an apology from the Aam Aadmi Party leaders, threatening to file a defamation case against them.
Sharma, who represents the RK Puram constituency under which Satya Niketan falls, said at a press conference that the building in question is a four-storey structure with stilt parking. The AAP leader also questioned whether the commercial building used as a PG had the required approvals from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
“If you have constructed the building after getting the map approved, show us the sanctioned plan. If it is being used for commercial purposes, you would also have the completion certificate and fire safety certificate,” he said.
Bharadwaj said the issue was not about where Sharma lived, but about the construction and operation of unauthorised PG accommodations in the area.
“This is a matter of the PG. The question is how unauthorised and illegal PGs are being constructed,” he said.
The AAP leader said Sharma had been a councillor from the area and was now its MLA, and therefore should make the relevant documents available for public scrutiny. On Wednesday, AAP leader Sanjeev Jha said if the city government is taking action against unauthorised PGs and sealing illegal floors, it should take the same action against Sharma’s property also.
“Every time an incident occurs, it is repeatedly said that strict orders will be issued and action will be taken. Mere statements will not be enough. Impartial action without any discrimination will have to be taken,” Jha said.
The collapse of the Satya Niketan all-boys PG on Sunday, which killed seven people and injured five, triggered a war of words between the BJP and the AAP. The two parties accused each other of having different “priorities” and of not focusing on the victims. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the spot twice to oversee the rescue operation.
