Kolkata, Aug 26 (PTI) West Bengal Labour Minister Arjun Singh has assured workers of the beedi industry that the state government would take necessary steps to ensure implementation of statutory benefits, including minimum wages, provident fund and gratuity.
Singh on Tuesday held talks with representatives of beedi workers, manufacturers and trade unions in Murshidabad during his day-long visit to the district, a labour department statement said.
The minister also held a meeting at the Jangipur Circuit House with representatives of beedi workers’ unions and manufacturers to discuss labour laws, rights and social security measures, it said.
“Issues relating to PF, ESI, gratuity, minimum wages and other statutory benefits would be examined and necessary steps taken to ensure their proper and transparent implementation,” Singh said.
Singh also visited the homes of beedi workers at Nimtita in Murshidabad and interacted with them, the statement said.
