Guwahati, Nov 3 (PTI) Electricity tariffs in Assam will be increased by up to 5 paise per unit to offset the impact of rising fuel prices due to the West Asia crisis, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Tuesday.
He, however, said this would be a temporary measure, and the increased tariff will be rolled back after three months or when the situation normalises.
“There will not be a major electricity tariff hike. When fuel prices rise, the power rates also increase. We are at present purchasing power from various entities,” the CM said.
“Due to rising global fuel prices driven by the West Asia conflict, a minimal and temporary adjustment of 4–5 paise per unit will apply for just about three months,” Sarma told reporters here.
The increase would be rolled back once the situation stabilises after around three months, he added.
“I have instructed that the power tariff hike should not be more than 5 paise. This will be a temporary hike only,” the CM stressed. PTI TR NN
