Guwahati, Oct 18 (PTI) Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday greeted people on the occasion of ‘Kati Bihu’.

‘Kati Bihu’ is observed in the month of ‘Kati’ or ‘Kartick’, as people pray for a good harvest.

“On this sacred occasion of ‘Kati Bihu’, the embodiment of agrarian and cultural life of Assamese society, I offer my heartfelt devotion and reverence to the Almighty for the well-being of the people of the state,” the governor said in a social media post.

“Let the glow of the lamp lit at the holy feet of the sacred Tulsi in the evening dispel pests and insects, and the fields flourish with ripened crops,” he said.

Sarma, in another social media post, also extended greetings on the occasion.

“As our fields await the golden harvest, may the earthen lamps of Kati Bihu bring hope, prosperity and light into every home,” he said.

“May Maa Lakshmi bless our farmers and Assam with a bountiful harvest,” the chief minister added. PTI SSG RBT

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
