Guwahati, Aug 17 (PTI) The flood situation in Assam improved on Monday, even as one more person died and around 32,000 people still reeled under the deluge across four districts, officials said.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), one person drowned in flood waters in Sivasagar district, pushing the toll in this year’s deluge to 105.
More than 31,900 people have been affected in Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon and Sivasagar districts, it said in a bulletin.
Nagaon is the worst-hit district with nearly 20,000 people impacted, followed by Jorhat (over 5,000 people) and Sivasagar (over 4,500 people).
The flood situation improved since Sunday, when almost 52,000 people were affected across five districts.
The ASDMA said the administration has been operating 15 relief camps and relief distribution centres in four districts, taking care of 2,782 affected people.
At present, 147 villages are under water and 3,198.77 hectares of crop area have been damaged across Assam, the bulletin stated.
Embankments, roads, bridges and other infrastructure were damaged by flood waters in various districts of the state, it said.
On account of widespread flooding, 16,323 domestic animals and poultry were affected across Assam, it added. PTI TR RBT
