Guwahati, Jul 24 (PTI) A bomb threat email received on Thursday targeting the Dispur co-district office in Assam’s state capital turned out to be a hoax, police said.

An official of Guwahati Police told PTI that an email was received in the afternoon threatening to carry out a blast in the building at Basistha locality here.

“We carried out a thorough search of the premises and found nothing. It was a hoax,” he added.

People also suspected that a bag, which was lying idle for some time, contained the bomb, the officer said.

“Two people came to the office for some work and left the bag near a two-wheeler. That created a panic. However, they came after some time,” he added.

On April 22 and May 11, similar bomb hoax emails landed at Gauhati High Court’s official ID. The threats had turned out to be hoaxes. PTI TR TR MNB
