Itanagar, Sep 10 (PTI) The Arunachal Pradesh Police have started a probe into the alleged use of chemicals for ripening bananas in the Naharlagun area near here, officials said.
The action was initiated after a video posted on social media in this regard came to the notice of the authorities on Tuesday, Naharlagun-Itanagar Capital Region SP Nyelam Nega said.
Naharlagun police station officer-in-charge K Dev lodged an FIR on Wednesday under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, he said.
“The exact nature and chemical composition of the substance depicted in the video are yet to be established, and will be determined through scientific examination and detailed investigation,” the SP said.
Food safety violations will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law, he said.
The investigation will also identify those involved in the alleged practice, the officer added. PTI CORR RBT
