Itanagar, May 14 (PTI) Expressing serious concern over deliberate violations of rules by certain departments, Arunachal Pradesh Governor KT Parnaik on Thursday said corruption weakens governance and erodes public trust in institutions.

During a meeting with Lokayukta chairperson Justice (retired) Prasanta Kumar Deka at Lok Bhavan here, the governor emphasised that integrity, honesty and accountability in public service are vital for ensuring good governance and equitable development in the state, according to an official statement.

Parnaik highlighted the important role of the Lokayukta as an independent anti-corruption body and ombudsman responsible for protecting public interest.

He said the institution must function with fairness, transparency and efficiency while ensuring impartial investigations into complaints and allegations.

He said swift action against corruption and maladministration would strengthen public confidence in democratic institutions and encourage ethical conduct among public servants.

Deka and Parnaik also discussed issues related to corruption, transparency, accountability and the need for effective investigation mechanisms in public administration.

Lokayukta member Sang Phuntsok was also present at the meeting. PTI UPL UPL SOM
