Itanagar, Apr 23 (PTI) The Arunachal Pradesh government on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) to promote the state’s textile and handicraft sector.

The MoU was signed by Department of Textiles and Handicrafts commissioner Mimum Tayeng and EPCH executive director Rajesh Rawat in the presence of state minister Nyato Dukuma and others.

According to an official statement, the agreement envisages collaboration in skill development through structured capacity-building programmes, product diversification in line with global trends, and strengthening branding and packaging of traditional crafts.

It also aims to facilitate the participation of artisans and entrepreneurs in national and international trade fairs and create sustainable livelihood opportunities by improving market linkages.

Dukuma expressed confidence that the partnership would help empower artisans and promote Arunachal Pradesh’s handicrafts globally.

Highlighting the state’s rich heritage of bamboo, cane, textiles and tribal artefacts, Tayeng said the collaboration would boost capacity building, design innovation and market access.

Rawat reiterated EPCH’s commitment to supporting the state in developing a sustainable, export-oriented handicrafts ecosystem, with a focus on product development, quality improvement and export readiness.

EPCH-NER regional convenor Jesmina Zeliang stressed the need for stronger market linkages and said exposure to various trade platforms would help artisans become globally competitive. PTI CORR ACD
