Pathanamthitta (Kerala), Jun 18 (PTI) The police on Thursday launched an investigation after an Anganwadi worker was found dead in a forest area at Gavi here, officials said.
According to police, the body of the 32-year-old Anganwadi worker, who is a native of Moozhiyar, was found at Meenar in Gavi in the morning.
Gavi is a forest region with only a small population residing in the area.
Locals alerted the Moozhiyar police after discovering the body.
Police who reached the spot found the deceased person’s clothes torn and injury marks on the body and suspect foul play, officials said.
A forensic team from Pathanamthitta will soon reach the place for preliminary examination.
Based on information gathered from residents, police identified a suspect and alerted nearby police stations.
Later in the afternoon, the suspect was taken into custody from Vallakkadavu near Vandiperiyar in Idukki district, officials said.
Police said confirmation on whether the death was a murder would be available only after the postmortem examination.
The postmortem will be conducted at a government hospital.
