New Delhi: A teenager died in Andhra Pradesh Friday after being set ablaze by a few men while he was on his way to tuition.

The boy, Uppala Amarnath, was rushed to the hospital with serious burns but he succumbed during treatment.

The 15-year-old, a resident of Cherukupalli in Bapatla district, was accosted on the road by one Venkateswara Reddy, the police said. Reddy had brought along a few others and they poured petrol over the boy and set him on fire. The accused are absconding.

Cherukupally Senior Inspector Konda Reddy said local people rushed to the boy hearing his screams and took him to the Guntur government hospital. He died soon after.

In his dying declaration, the teenager named his assailants. Reddy said the police have mounted a manhunt to catch the perpetrators.

Amarnath’s grandfather Reddaiah said the murderer was a boy who was harassing his elder sister in college. The teenager had apparently pulled him up for disturbing his sister.
