New Delhi: Farmers in Andhra Pradesh who have been affected by the “Michaung” cyclonic rains will be given relief in the form of waiving the additional service charges on the sale of their excess Flue Cured Virginia tobacco, a PIB press release stated.
The Tobacco Board of Andhra Pradesh has decided to waive the additional service charges on the sale of excess Flue Cured Virginia tobacco. This decision was taken after considering the crop damage in 15028.09 ha of registered growers across all soil regions in the state. The waiving of the additional service charges will benefit the farmers who have incurred additional expenses due to replantation and gap filling in the main field due to the cyclonic rains between December 3 and 5, 2023.
The decision to waive the additional service charges will greatly help the farmers recover the loss due to the cyclonic rains and will also help them overcome their financial plight. The move is expected to handhold the FCV tobacco farmers to a positive position and continue their livelihood.
During the 2023-24 crop season, 43125 farmers in Andhra Pradesh cultivated FCV tobacco in an area of 97127.07 ha and produced 205.5 million kg of tobacco.
