Amaravati, Jun 30 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday directed telecom companies to expand mobile network coverage, especially in remote areas, by setting up additional towers and improving infrastructure.
During a review meeting with representatives of major telecom service providers at his camp office on Tuesday, officials informed the CM that the state currently has 30,694 mobile towers and requires another 2,310 to achieve comprehensive network coverage.
“The chief minister directed telecom companies to focus on improving mobile coverage, particularly in remote regions, through the installation of additional towers and enhanced network infrastructure,” a press release said.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to making Andhra a model state in communication infrastructure, Naidu said the priority was to achieve last-mile connectivity by extending communication services to even the remotest villages.
The CM said he wanted to ensure seamless digital connectivity across urban and rural areas, and assured telecom operators of the government’s support in facilitating tower installations.
Naidu asked them to examine the possibility of completing the proposed installations within 100 days, and directed officials to identify and share details of all geographically uncovered locations with the service providers.
The chief minister added that the greenfield capital city of Amaravati was being developed with an advanced fibre-based communication network, ensuring that every household received fibre connectivity without the need for repeated road excavations.
Officials said the state currently had a nearly 1.7-lakh-km-long optical fibre network and over 2.8 million broadband connections.
Naidu appealed to telecom service providers to partner with the government in promoting digital literacy among mobile users across the state in order to deliver several other services. PTI STH SSK
