Sri Vijaya Puram, Sep 3 (PTI) The Andaman and Nicobar Police has recorded excellent performance across all parameters of cybercrime matrix for the period January to August 20 this year at a Pragati review meeting, an officer said on Thursday.
Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation (PRAGATI) is an information and communication technology (ICT) enabled, multi-modal platform launched in 2015 to fast-track delayed projects and public grievances.
The Cybercrime Performance Matrix assesses the performance of states and union territories across key areas, including cybercrime prevention and response, investigation, victim assistance, inter-agency coordination, and capacity building.
Speaking to PTI, DGP Ravindra Singh Yadav said, “We have recorded excellent performance across all the parameters, which reflects our consistency and determination towards strengthening the cybercrime response system in the Islands.” “The recognition received by us in the national-level PRAGATI assessment reflects our collective efforts and commitment towards technology-driven policing, effective cybercrime investigation and response, capacity building and enhanced citizen safety,” he said.
The State Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, e-Zero FIR, Grievance Redressal Module (GRM), Money Restoration Module (MRM), Sahyog and Samanvay platforms, cybercrime hotspot action, CyTrain and IEC activities are the parameters which were assessed in the review meeting, the DGP said.
“As part of these efforts, our Cyber Crime Coordination Centre has been established and operationalised, while the e-Zero FIR mechanism has also been successfully implemented in the union territory. To strengthen the response to cyber financial fraud, we have adopted a more victim-centric approach to case registration,” he said.
In detailing the victim-centric approach, the DGP said the minimum monetary fraud to register an FIR under cybercrime has been reduced from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 50,000. This will help more victims receive timely legal and investigative assistance from us.
The Andaman and Nicobar Police have strengthened its technical and forensic capabilities with the establishment of a dedicated Cyber Forensic Training Laboratory (CFTL) at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Police Training Institute (NSCBPTI).
The CFTL provides practical training to new recruits and serving police personnel in digital forensics and the scientific handling of electronic evidence. “It is equipped with modern forensic tools, and it will enhance the technical skills of investigators in the collection, preservation, examination and analysis of digital evidence, thereby contributing to more effective and professional investigation of cybercrime cases,” the DGP said.
On recovery, he said, “Due to our timely intervention and coordinated efforts, we have managed to recover and restore Rs 1,72,51,012 to victims during the period January 1 to August 20 this year”. PTI SN RG
