Amitabh Bachchan & Abhishek Bachchan test positive for Covid, in Mumbai hospital

The 77-year-old Amitabh Bachchan Saturday night tweeted that he tested positive for coronavirus. He said family and staff had undergone tests and results were awaited.

New Delhi: Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan tweeted late Saturday night that he tested positive for Covid-19 and had been admitted to a hospital in Mumbai.

In his Twitter post, he said his family and staff had been tested for the infection, and results were awaited. He also asked everyone who had come in contact with him in the last 10 days to get tested as well.

In less than an hour, his son, actor Abhishek Backchan also tweeted he too had tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The 77-year-old actor was admitted to Nanavati Hospital, news agency PTI reported.

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said both father and son underwent rapid antigen test.

“Amitabh Bachchan ji and Abhishek had mild symptoms. They had cough and fever. They underwent rapid antigen test and (result) came positive. Since he (Amitabh) is co-morbid he has got himself admitted to the hospital. They both are normal. Their test was conducted today at the Nanavati hospital,” the minister told PTI.

Friends from the film fraternity and fans took to social media to wish both the Bachchans a speedy recovery.

 

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted the power of a billion prayers to them.

Amitabh Bachchan, who has spoken actively on the need for personal hygiene and social distancing during the pandemic, was last seen in Gulabo Sitabo, which released on Amazon Prime Video in June. He is also set to host the 12th season of hit show Kaun Banega Crorepati.

Abhishek Bachchan latest venture is the thriller Breathe: Into the Shadows, streaming on Amazon Prime, which also starred Nithya Menon.
