Kolkata, Oct 17 (PTI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived here on Saturday evening for a two-day visit to West Bengal, during which he is scheduled to participate in the Durga Puja festivities, officials said.

This is his first visit to the state during Durga Puja after the BJP came to power in West Bengal.

Shah arrived at the airport here at around 8.15 pm and was received by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya, among others.

The home minister came here from Ahmedabad and will have an overnight stay at a guest house in South Kolkata’s Alipore, the officials said.

He is scheduled to visit Belur Math, the headquarters of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, at 10.45 am on Sunday to witness the Durga Puja there.

He is also expected to visit the Deshbandhu Club Durga Puja at Bally in Howrah district at 11.30 am before heading to north Kolkata’s Sovabazar Rajbari for its more than 250-year-old Durga Puja and will offer prayers there, BJP sources said.

Later in the day, Shah is scheduled to visit the Sreebhumi Durga Puja in eastern Kolkata’s Lake Town area and 24 Pally in Chetla in the southern part of the city before leaving for Delhi, they added. PTI SUS BSM BDC

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
