Chandigarh, Aug 9 (PTI) Punjab BJP chief Kewal Singh Dhillon on Sunday said he met the party’s national president Nitin Nabin in Delhi and discussed the strategy for the 2027 assembly elections and strengthening the party organisation in the state.
Substantive discussions on the party’s future roadmap, keeping in mind Punjab’s key issues of agriculture, youth, border security and urban development, were held in the meeting, Dhillon said.
The Punjab BJP president and state organisation secretary Manthri Srinivasulu were summoned on Saturday amid dissent within the BJP’s state unit over the recent organisational reshuffle, sources said.
The organisational changes led to dissent among sections of leaders who accused the state leadership of sidelining the old cadre.
The meeting also came against the backdrop of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, which ignited speculations about the possibility of the regional party joining hands with the BJP again.
In a statement, Dhillon said a key meeting was held in Delhi with Nabin and BJP leader Satish Poonia to strengthen the party organisation in Punjab and chart out the strategy for the 2027 assembly elections.
Dhillon said that in the coming days, strong teams will be formed at the level of every district, every ‘mandal’, and every village, which will yield positive results in the upcoming elections.
The BJP’s Punjab unit has further widened its outreach in the state over serious issues confronting Punjab such as drugs, unemployment, law and order and the farm crisis, the party statement said.
It said that the party is continuously organising contact programmes at the village and city level, so that the benefits of the central government’s pro-people schemes can reach every family in Punjab directly.
Launching a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party government, Dhillon said Punjab is “grappling with crises such as the scourge of drugs, deteriorating law and order, and the migration of youth abroad, but the ruling party has no concrete solution to these problems.” He said the BJP is committed to making Punjab a safe, prosperous, and progressive state once again, and that the organisation is being strengthened down to every village and every booth in pursuit of this goal.
Dhillon said ahead of Independence Day, a “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign is underway across Punjab from August 9-14.
Punjab will see “Tiranga Yatras” taken out in every district, city, and village, encouraging people to hoist the national flag at their homes, he said.
The state president said that as part of the “Samarasta Sankalp Abhiyan” held across the country for the 650th birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas, a “Kalash Yatra” carrying sacred soil brought from the Guru’s birthplace is being taken to villages across Punjab, particularly in the Doaba region, which has a large Dalit population.
