Shimla, Oct 31 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said on Saturday that allegations of vote manipulation and electoral irregularities are serious matters that require transparent investigation and accountability.
Talking to the media here, he said the Congress party was exercising its democratic right to raise these concerns and protest against any alleged attempt to undermine the electoral process. Sukhu reiterated that the Constitution is the soul of Indian democracy and that protecting it is essential to preserving future generations’ rights and aspirations, saying the right to vote was one of Independence’s most significant achievements and must be protected at all costs.
He said the legacy of leaders like Indira Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel inspired the country to remain united, uphold democratic principles and work towards a strong, inclusive and progressive India.
Earlier, the chief minister paid tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary by offering flowers at her statue at The Ridge, Shimla. He also remembered former Union Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India, on his birth anniversary. He administered the oath of national integration to the people.
He said Indira Gandhi was an extraordinary leader known for her courage, determination and ability to take bold decisions in challenging circumstances. Her leadership during the 1971 Indo-Pak war was a defining moment in India’s history, which led to the liberation of Bangladesh and brought a significant transformation in the geopolitical landscape of the subcontinent, he said.
She made several historic decisions in the country’s larger interest, aimed at reducing economic inequalities and strengthening the public sector, such as nationalising banks, abolishing the privy purses of former rulers, and implementing land ceiling measures in 1971, the chief minister said.
Remembering former Union Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, he said despite facing considerable resistance and complex challenges, Sardar Patel demonstrated extraordinary administrative acumen and political determination in bringing hundreds of princely states together, including Hyderabad and Jammu and Kashmir, thereby laying a strong foundation for a united India.
Governor Kavinder Gupta paid tributes to Sardar Patel, recalling his unparalleled contribution to India’s unity, integrity, and nation-building.
The governor said Sardar Patel’s determination, administrative vision and unwavering commitment to national unity remain a source of inspiration for generations. He said Sardar Patel believed India’s strength lies in its unity and collective resolve. His life and ideals remind every citizen that the nation’s progress and security depend on maintaining unity, integrity and a strong spirit of national service, he said.
The governor appealed to the people to strengthen the spirit of harmony, mutual respect, and unity in diversity, and to work collectively towards building a prosperous, developed, and strong India.
The governor said Patel’s ideals will continue to guide the nation on its journey towards Viksit Bharat. PTI BPL ASD
