Aligarh: A 17-year-old student in UP’s Aligarh district allegedly took his own life after his father refused to buy him an iPhone.

According to the police, Prince Pachauri went up to the roof of his house in Navman Colony and shot himself dead with a pistol Wednesday afternoon, while his family was asleep.

A day earlier, the student left the house in a rage after his father refused his demand for an iPhone, and could not be found. Later that night, the police traced him to Ghaziabad and handed him over to his family, but the next day, he took his own life.

Inspector Vijay Singh of Rorawar Police Station said Prince was the son of a property dealer, Anil Pachauri, who filed a missing complaint regarding his son Tuesday night. The police came to know that Prince had been calling one of his friends and updating about his location. He first told the friend he was in Bulandshahr, and then in Ghaziabad.

A police team led by Singh then reached Ghaziabad and found Prince at the foot overbridge near Vaishali metro station and handed him over to his family.

At around 2.30 pm Wednesday, Prince went up to the roof with a pistol allegedly kept in the house. The sound of a gunshot followed. The family rushed upstairs to find Prince lying in a pool of blood.

The family rushed the teenager to a private hospital, from where he was referred to JN Medical College. There, the doctors declared Prince dead.

Inspector Singh said Prince was a Class 12 student in GD Public School, and had a sister. The police have sent his body for post-mortem and the case is being investigated.

Police are probing how the minor got hold of a gun.
