Guwahati, May 4 (PTI) AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal is leading against his Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) rival Rejaul Karim Choudhury by 10253 votes in Assam’s Binnakandi constituency after the seventh round of counting, according to EC data.
Ajmal polled 33615 votes while Choudhury secured 23362 votes.
The AIUDF president is contesting the assembly polls in the state for the second time after 2006.
He had contested and won from two seats of South Salmara and Jamunamukh in 2006, and vacated the latter in favour of his brother Sirajuddin Ajmal.
Ajmal represented South Salmara till 2009 when he contested for Lok Sabha from Dhubri and went on to represent it for three successive terms till 2024 when he lost to Rakibul Hussain of Congress by a record margin of over 10 lakh votes. PTI DG NN
