Chennai, Apr 30 (PTI) With most exit polls suggesting a return of the ruling DMK post April 23 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday said that his party broke such predictions in the past and rose by leaps and bounds in every electoral exercise.

In his first response to the exit polls released on Wednesday, the AIADMK general secretary said “such success (ensured in the past) will definitely continue in this election too”.

In a statement here, he alleged that the DMK is “systematically” spreading false information in the name of exit polls.

The Leader of Opposition said “they are misleading the people of Tamil Nadu and our party workers. Therefore no need to worry about the predictions.” Claiming that the AIADMK has so far formed the government by “defeating” all exit polls, he recalled the 2011 and 2016 assembly elections in the state which his party won under the leadership of the late J Jayalalithaa.

“At that time the exit polls predicted that the DMK government would continue and only few predictions suggested that the AIADMK was likely to win”, he said about 2011, adding, the DMK won only 23 seats then and could not even gain the main opposition party status.

Alleging that the DMK will try to create an illusion that it would win, the former chief minister also alleged that it might create chaos. “Therefore, all the party workers, booth agents, candidates and constituency election in-charges should act with extreme caution at the places where the counting of votes will be held on May 4.” Palaniswami expressed confidence that his party-led alliance would emerge victorious in 210 out of the 234 assembly segments.
