Agra: A two-part video, purportedly of a group of youth threatening a man and urinating on him in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra went viral Monday, with the police arresting the alleged miscreants hours later. The incident comes weeks after a similar video, of a man purportedly urinating on a mentally-ill tribal person in Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi district went viral on social media, prompting Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to not only order action, but later meet and wash the feet of the alleged victim.

The purported video from Agra, which was shared on WhatsApp groups and social media, appears to show a group of youth forcing a young man to touch their feet, threatening to kill him if he doesn’t. In the second video, the young man who had earlier appeared to have been threatened is shown lying on the ground, covered in blood, while one among the group of accused appears to urinate on him.

According to the police, the incident took place in Agra’s Sikandra police station area three-to-four months ago. Two of the accused were arrested after the video went viral Monday, while a third is absconding.

Talking to ThePrint, Agra deputy commissioner of police Suraj Kumar Rai said the police came to know about the incident via social media, as no such case had not been reported at any police station in the city.

“The main miscreant who was seen urinating upon the victim has been identified as Aditya [identified by police by first name only], and he was immediately arrested by the Sikandra police Monday evening. He has been booked under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult) and 506 (criminal intimidation) (of the Indian Penal Code),” Rai added.

Sikandra inspector, Anand Kumar Shahi, who is leading the investigation, claimed the accused was a “criminal-minded youth and has several cases registered against him”.

‘Main accused in a fight’

“Aditya has also been imprisoned in a case previously. About four days ago, he was the main accused in a fight that broke out at a restaurant in Sikandra area,” Shahi alleged.

Referring to the urination incident, the inspector further added that Aditya had been arrested along with one of his accomplices, Bhola [identified by a single name by police], while the identity of a third person who is believed to have shot the video is still unknown.

According to Shahi, the police have identified the purported victim as Vicky, a resident of Fatehpur Sikri.

The inspector added that when the police reached Vicky’s parents to know why they hadn’t filed an FIR in the case, they did not say anything. Vicky was also not present at his residence when the police visited, he claimed.
