Chandigarh, Nov 2 (PTI) The Haryana Congress on Monday said that after the “unprecedented success” of the INDIA bloc rally in Delhi, the ‘Vote Bachao-Desh Bachao’ campaign will reach every village and booth in the state.
Haryana Congress in-charge Sanjay Dutt and state unit chief Rao Narender Singh said the “massive gathering at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan reflected the people’s anger against the arrogance of the BJP, misuse of power and sustained attacks on democratic institutions, as well as their firm resolve to defend democracy”.
The rally sent out a clear message that the people of India will not tolerate any attack on their right to vote, the Constitution or the democratic system, they said.
The powerful voice raised at Ramlila Maidan for the protection of democracy will now reach every village, every street and every polling booth across Haryana, they added.
At Sunday’s rally, the opposition INDIA bloc called for the BJP’s ouster from power over “vote chori”, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi asserting that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar would be removed and sent to jail for treason in future. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah would also not be allowed to escape the law, the leader of opposition had said.
The Congress will not confine this struggle to rallies and public meetings, but will transform it into a broad-based mass movement driven by people’s participation, Dutt said.
He said that in pursuance of this resolve, the Congress will launch the third phase of its statewide ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ campaign from November 3 to November 25.
The campaign will be formally launched on November 3 from Ladwa, the assembly constituency of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and will be taken to every district, block, village and polling booth across the state, he said.
“The primary objective of this campaign is to sensitise the common people about their constitutional right to vote, strengthen public participation in ensuring the fairness and transparency of electoral rolls, and establish a robust organisational and mass-movement mechanism to safeguard the vote of every eligible voter,” Dutt said.
He said that as part of this campaign, ‘chaupals’ (public meetings) will be organised across villages throughout Haryana to establish direct interaction with citizens, youths, women, farmers, labourers and various sections of society.
“In addition, the following activities will be undertaken: electoral roll verification: booth level agents and Congress workers will actively scrutinise electoral rolls at the booth level and take necessary steps to ensure that the names of all eligible voters are duly included,” Dutt said.
“Dedicated teams will be constituted and activated at every polling booth, with clearly defined responsibilities for party workers, to safeguard the voting rights of citizens.
“Complaints and relevant documents will be collected from citizens affected by deletion of names from electoral rolls, non-inclusion of eligible voters or other irregularities. Assistance will also be provided in initiating appropriate action in accordance with the prescribed rules and procedures,” he said.
Dutt and Singh jointly asserted that the integrity of electoral rolls, fairness of the electoral process, and the independent and transparent functioning of the Election Commission are fundamental prerequisites of democracy.
The Congress will continue to raise the people’s voices on these critical issues and fight with full determination to protect the vote of every eligible citizen, they said. PTI SUN DIV
