Gorakhpur (UP), Sep 29 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday urged people to contribute to cow protection and care either at home or at the more than 7,700 shelters in Uttar Pradesh.
Speaking at an event at the Gorakhnath temple here, Adityanath said farmers who keep stray cattle at home receive Rs 1,500 per month for each animal, meaning that keeping four cattle would yield an income of Rs 6,000 per month.
He said rhere is also a provision to provide a lactating cow taken from a cow shelter to families with malnourished children. The family will also get a monthly allowance of Rs 1,500 for the animal’s upkeep, he added.
The chief minister said that people lacking space at home could still contribute to cow protection efforts by adopting a cow at a ‘gaushala’ (cow shelter).
Calling for the conservation and promotion of indigenous cattle breeds, Adityanath said that the government is caring for over 1.6 million cattle across its more than 7,700 shelters.
He also emphasised the adoption of cow-based natural farming, linking the excessive use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides to the contamination of food grains.
The CM advocated promotion of natural farming using dung and urine of indigenous cattle.
Adityanath also said that while the government has enacted strict laws for cattle protection.
