Lucknow, Oct 17 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said that prominent freedom fighter and socialist thinker Ram Manohar Lohia had written about Lord Ram, Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva in one of his articles, which is of great importance for legal practitioners in the country.

Speaking at the fifth convocation ceremony of the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University here, Adityanath said, “Dr Ram Manohar Lohia did not visit temples. Nor did he subscribe to any one specific mode of worship. However, in an article, he wrote: ‘What kind of mind should we have? One like Lord Shiva’.

“According to the article, Shiva alone possesses the capacity to engage in deep meditation – be it while seated upon the highest peak in the Himalayas or when covered in ashes at a cremation ground, his mind remains entirely unshakeable.

“Lord Shiva represents the ideal of one who retains the ability to make sound decisions, regardless of whether the circumstances are favourable or adverse, Lohia said in the article,” Adityanath said.

Lohia also said that one should possess a heart like Lord Krishna – a heart that holds compassion even for the poor – and a commitment to one’s word like Lord Ram, who will never allow dignity (‘maryada’) to be transgressed, Adityanath said.

“I believe that these three aspects are of great importance for a legal practitioner in India,” he added.

Lohia’s 1956 essay ‘Ram, Krishna and Shiv’ explores the cultural and political psyche of India through the distinct personalities of these three figures. PTI NAV ARI

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
