Balrampur (UP), Oct 10 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, while accusing the Congress and its allies of abandoning political decorum and attempting to push the country towards anarchy.
Addressing a public meeting in Balrampur, Adityanath said opposition parties are crossing the limits of political dissent by using language that undermined established values and traditions.
“Opposition too has its limits. The Congress and its allies have now forgotten even basic courtesies,” he said, adding that they were “attempting to mislead the country and push it towards anarchy by abandoning all established values”.
“But the double-engine government is not going to accept this anarchy. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, no one will be allowed to play with India’s honour, pride and glory,” he said.
“Just as decisive action has been taken to eliminate Naxalism, strict action will also be taken against anyone who attempts to challenge India’s security or create anarchy in the country,” Adityanath said.
Praising Modi’s 12 years of leadership at the Centre, Adityanath said it has resulted in emergence of a “new India”, driven by a vision of development and large-scale infrastructure projects.
“Was all this possible earlier? This is Modi ji’s vision. Today, major projects are being completed,” he said.
Targeting opposition parties over their alleged objection to construction of religious sites, the chief minister said they had opposed the Ram temple in Ayodhya, the Kashi Vishwanath Dham project and the Vindhyavasini Dham corridor.
He alleged that the Congress and Samajwadi Party had failed to ensure good governance when they were in power, accusing the former of being associated with corruption scandals, and the latter of ushering in lawlessness, communal riots and insecurity.
Adityanath said opposition parties questioned electronic voting machines (EVMs), the administration, courts and the Election Commission only when they lost elections, while they took credit for victories.
“When they win elections, they attribute the victory to their own capabilities; when they lose, they blame EVMs,” he said, alleging that opposition leaders are attempting to provoke young people after electoral defeats.
The remarks come amid a fresh confrontation between the opposition and the Election Commission over alleged irregularities in its functioning and Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Opposition parties have accused the poll body of bias and raised concerns over the SIR exercise.
Referring to the Samajwadi Party’s tenure in Uttar Pradesh, he alleged that the recruitment process in various commissions had been compromised by favouritism and the safety of women, traders and young people had been played with.
He said the BJP government was creating employment opportunities, attracting fresh investments and introducing schemes to meet the aspirations of young people.
Taking a swipe at the previous state government, Adityanath alleged that public funds had been spent on construction of boundary walls around graveyards before 2017 instead of being used for broader development, and claimed that the earlier administration had encouraged an environment conducive to riots.
