Accident victim’s family receives compensation of Rs 87 lakh at Lok Adalat

Thane, May 9 (PTI) The family of a Central Ordnance Department employee received a compensation of Rs 87 lakh at the National Lok Adalat here on Saturday which happened to be his first death anniversary.

The courtroom witnessed emotional scenes as the heirs of the deceased, Maruti Mule, were presented with the settlement cheque by Thane Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinivas B Agarwal.

Mule was killed on May 9, 2025, after being hit by a truck while walking on the MIDC road here.

The claim was settled under the guidance of District Judge S P Agarwal and Motor Accident Claims Tribunal member judge R V Mohite.

Advocate Pravin Shinde and Advocate Suhasini Navadkar appeared for the claimants.

In another settlement, the family of Sushma Barua (54), a lawyer, received Rs 52.25 lakh. Barua, who practiced in the Kalyan and Ulhasnagar courts, was killed on February 27, 2025, when a truck knocked her down on the Karjat-Ambernath road.

She is survived by her husband and a teenage daughter. PTI COR KRK
