Gangtok, May 20 (PTI) The 650-metre-long viaduct at Namli in Gangtok district, connecting National Highway-10 with Airport Road NH-717A, has been opened for commercial operation, an official statement said on Wednesday.
It said the viaduct was opened on May 19 following directions from the chief secretary.
The viaduct, constructed at an average height of 25 metres above the ground level, passes between the National Science Museum and the State Science Centre, showcasing advanced infrastructure development in the region.
The newly operational viaduct is expected to serve as an important diversion route for Ranipool town, thereby easing traffic congestion in the area. It will also reduce the travel distance between Pakyong and Siliguri by approximately 6.5 kilometres, benefitting commuters and facilitating smoother movement of vehicles in both directions.
It is expected to improve connectivity and enhance transportation efficiency along the strategic corridor linking eastern Sikkim with neighbouring regions, it said. PTI COR RG
